Wine in Marseilles

France is tricky for me. I have never met French people, I had never been to France, and it was kind of a culture shock. More so in the French people. Not everyone was nice, but not everyone was rude, either, so it was hard. I wouldn’t say it was my favorite country, but Marseilles was GORGEOUS.
Our hotel, a 10/10. It was technically a suite/apartment, as it was separate from the “lobby”, and it had a kitchen and living room. But can I say, I felt like I was living like a European. Cute windows open, listening to the scooters on the street, drinking wine and watching TV. Peak experience. And the suite was immaculate, message me for details.
Like Lisbon and Barcelona, we didn’t stay for too long, but it was enough time, as there was not a crazy amount of activities to do. Other than walking around the marina to the shops and restaurants, we did two things. First, we went to the Basilique de Notre Dame at the top of the hill. This was an elite experience. I am not religious, but the church was gorgeous, and had so much history. Not only that, the views were out of this world. A full 360 view of Marseilles from the top of the hill. We could see the ocean, the rolling hills, the old buildings, everything. It was worth it to climb so many stairs.
My favorite part was the wine and cheese tasting. I was in Heaven, I tell you what. I scheduled all of our activities with Get Your Guide, fantastic site btw. This was a private wine and cheese tasting with a couple who owns a small wine shop, and their knowledge was extensive. We stayed longer than we should have, because the wine was good, the cheese was immaculate, and the facts were so interesting. I don’t even like cheese. The Provence region of France is the place to go for wine and cheese, and I am so glad we chose Marseilles.
Even though Marseilles, or France in general, was not our cup of tea, our activities made it worth it. I mean, look at these pics!
